Finally Elon joins the game.

In a surprising announcement on the X social media platform, Elon Musk revealed that his company, xAI, is preparing to launch its inaugural AI model to a handpicked audience this Saturday. Musk touted the technology as being “the best that currently exists” in certain crucial aspects, although the specific criteria he referred to remain undisclosed.

The mysterious “select group” who will be granted early access to xAI’s cutting-edge AI model remains unknown, sparking curiosity and speculation within the tech community.

This release marks the debut of Musk’s newly established AI laboratory, which was officially inaugurated in July following months of anticipation. The company’s ambitious mission is to unravel the “true nature of the universe” through advanced artificial intelligence.

Elaborating on xAI’s overarching objectives, Musk clarified that the primary aim is to create a “good AGI” that possesses an insatiable curiosity and an unyielding commitment to seeking the truth. He affirmed that xAI will dedicate its resources to exploring scientific inquiries and striving to unveil the genuine nature of various phenomena.

Notably, Musk has expressed concerns about OpenAI, an organization he co-founded and subsequently distanced himself from, particularly regarding its AI-powered chatbot, ChatGPT. He has consistently criticized the model for potential biases and excessive “wokeness.” In response, Musk has previously declared his intention to develop “TruthGPT,” a maximally curious AI model designed to address these issues.

Elon Musk’s xAI is poised to become a formidable rival to existing AI models, including OpenAI’s GPT, Google’s PaLM 2, and Meta’s Llama. Insider previously reported that Musk had been actively recruiting talent for an extensive language model-based AI initiative, with two notable hires, Manuel Kroiss and Igor Babuschkin, both former members of Google’s AI research unit, DeepMind.
