IBM says its HR department has successfully implemented AI automation, saving nearly 12,000 hours over the past 18 months.
The company has developed over 280 AI automations, including AskHR, a virtual assistant that provides employees with information based on their tenure, location, and days already used.
IBM also uses AI for performance evaluations, automating the process of determining which employees qualify for a raise or promotion. The use of AI has significantly reduced the number of HR professionals performing manual tasks from 700 to fewer than 50.
However, the company has paused hiring for back-office roles that could be performed by AI, a move that could impact around 7,800 jobs. IBM’s Chief Human Resources Officer, Nickle LaMoreaux, emphasizes the importance of reskilling and continuous learning in the era of AI.
